A weekend house swap in Slaithwaite. Swimming in the morning followed by lunch at the excellent Handmade Bakery and two new lampshades for the kitchen at Made Good. Thanks to Sal, Mike, Ben, their two cats and two chickens. Sardinia next.

On Saturday, very nice place. Would have liked to be buy prints from the Shirley Baker exhibition. Some beautiful colour pictures of Hulme, taken on a summer’s day in 1965.

Courtesy of Retronaut, and necessary for this first week of January: “During the 1920s, the British firm Parker-Holladay created a fictional character named Bill Jones. Mr. Jones’ dispensed his friendly advice to British clerical workers through colorful lithographic posters emblazoned with his get-right-to-the-point maxims. The firm exported Bill Jones to the United States and Canada where he urged employees to develop the pluck and can-do attitude that develops success.”

Enjoying the Why This So Good stream from Nieman Storyboard – journalists select and critique a longform article they’ve liked. A great companion to the Readability app. Will be interested to see how Matter fares, Kickstarter-funded star-up selling longform stories for $0.99. Worthy, but still can’t compete with the free of Longform or NextDraft.
