Cycled from Chorlton to Debdale Park last Sunday, along the Fallowfield Loop. The route is lined with bramble bushes, now weighed down with ripe blackberries. On this sunny afternoon I must have spotted just four people helping themselves to a free harvest. I stopped last night on the way back from work and filled my empty sandwich Tupperware; three handfuls went into an apple & blackberry crumble (pictured, badly).
Not sure what kind of quantities could be farmed along The Loop, and I’m not suggesting someone one snaffles the lot for their own commercial purposes, but, in the same spirit as the Manchester Egg, is there not a gap in the market for a locally sourced jam? If it couldn’t sell in Chorlton it couldn’t sell anywhere.
