From Rome to Trafford, via Akron

Goodyear’s Wingfoot logo, trademarked in 1900, and seen here on the wall of Event Tyres, Trafford Bar. The idea was nicked from the Romans’ Mercury (or Greeks’ Hermes), swift messenger of the gods.

Wings are popular. Nike took its name from a Greek winged  goddess of victory. The logo of Mobil, the oil company, is a winged horse.
